Comfortably one of India’s most affordable electric hatchbacks, the Tata Tiago EV was first launched in September last year. At the time, the manufacturer clarified that the price tag would be part of a limited-period promotion valid for the initial 20,000 bookings. Not long after, the company announced that it would up the prices of Tiago EV variants by Rs 20,000 beginning in January 2023. Now that we’re in the middle of February 2023, the price bump has officially taken effect.

This essentially means the entry-level Tiago XE model that begins from Rs 8.49 lakhs will now cost Rs 8.69 lakhs (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the XT variant with the 24 kWh battery pack is now priced at Rs Rs 10.19 lakhs, whereas the top-end XZ+ Tech Lux (24 kWh) will take the ex-showroom cost to Rs 11.99 lakhs.

Lengthy waiting periods for the Tiago EV

As per Autocar India, colours like Teal Blue and Tropical Mist are the most sought-after. The publication also talks about the five to six months of waiting to receive the EV, especially the long-range versions featuring the 24 kWh battery, which also has a more powerful electric motor delivering 74 hp and 114 Nm of torque.

By contrast, the more affordable 19.2 kWh variant of the Tiago EV can offer 61hp and 110 Nm of torque. The two variants will provide a range of up to 250 km and 315 km, based on the MIDC testing cycle.

Tata Motors has sought to expand its production capacity by establishing dedicated units across India over the past several months. However, based on the protracted delivery times for the EV, it seems like some production bottlenecks still remain.
