One of the highly anticipated films of the year, Thunivu, has made a mark at the box office. Despite opening with another blockbuster film during the Pongal week, Thunivu has collected a remarkable amount at the box office.

Thunivu was released in theatres on January 11, 2023, and impressed the critics and audience. Reviewers praised the film for its storyline and direction. Details about the film’s OTT rights were shared well before the release; however, many fans have been waiting for the film to release online. Much to their surprise, the wait is over, as the makers have decided to release Thunivu online in February 2023. Thunivu is now streaming on Netflix in Tamil and Telugu languages. It was released at midnight on February 8, 2023.

Thunivu: Cast and Crew
Produced by Boney Kapoor, under Bayview Projects LLP, and Zee Studios, and distributed by Red Giant Movies, Thunivu stars eminent names like Ajith Kumar, Manju Warrier, John Kokken, Samuthirakani, Mamathi Chari, Veera, Vetri Kiran, Prem Kumar, and others. The film was written and directed by H. Vinoth.
Music was given by Ghibran, and Nirav Shah managed the cinematography of the film. Lyca Productions have bagged overseas distribution rights for the film.
Thunivu: Trailer and Premise
Previously titled AK62, Thunivu’s plot revolves around a mastermind who plans to carry out bank heists in the city of Chennai. He and his team have made a strong plan; however, the motive is unknown. Presented as an action thriller, the official plot of the story, as mentioned on IMDb, reads, “A mysterious mastermind – Daredevil and his team forms a plan and commits bank heist to find the corporate looted people’s money.”

Thunivu: Box Office Collection
As of Day 11, Thunivu has managed a nett collection of Rs. 167 crores at the box office globally, of which Rs. 100 crores nett have been from India. Out of the total gross collection globally, Rs. 49 crores gross are from the overseas market. This includes the release in both languages; however, most of the collection is from the primary language – Tamil – whereas the Telugu language release has not made a mark.
Meanwhile, Thunivu is falling short with over Rs. 5.49 crores in the race with Vijay’s Varisu, which was also released globally during Pongal 2023.
